Theresa Tracy
Board of Education Member

Theresa Tracy was appointed a Board of Education member in March 2009, filling a vacant seat. A journalist and publishing professional with nearly 20 years of experience, Ms. Tracy focused her career on education issues. Currently, Ms. Tracy is employed as a public relations specialist at the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC). Prior to ISAC Tracy worked at the University of Illinois Extension. Ms. Tracy's background also includes Managing Editor of Medical Journals at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) where she oversaw the editing, production, translation, and distribution of continuing education publications for pediatricians. Prior to AAP, Ms. Tracy was a staff reporter at the Chicago Tribune for two years, covering education issues, and still is a freelance education reporter for the newspaper. In 1995, Ms. Tracy founded Shades, a self-esteem magazine for young women of color, which she continues to publish in print and online. Ms. Tracy has been active in community groups including Girl Scouts of Chicago, the Chicago Coalition for Girls, YMCA, and YWCA. She earned her bachelor’s degree in print journalism from Roosevelt University’s College of Communications in 1998, and has since completed coursework at the University Of Chicago Graham School Of Publishing.
