Incoming Freshmen Information - Class of 2017
Incoming freshmen follow-up
(reprinted from March 2013 Superintendent's Newsletter)
Incoming freshmen students (Class of 2017) have completed placement examinations, and high school student services directors have met with junior high school teachers to review placement decisions. At these meetings, directors and teachers reviewed examination results and performance in junior high school classes and together determined courses students will take as freshmen in high school.
Testing results were mailed in early January, while course placement and elective assignments were mailed in late February. Final class schedules will be mailed at a later date. If you or your child have questions related to academic programming, please contact the student services director at the high school your child will attend in the fall.
Incoming freshmen update
(reprinted from January-February 2013 Superintendent's Newsletter)
On December 13, 2012, the incoming freshman class of 2017 took the EXPLORE Test, part of the ACT Test series. All students entering 9th grade at a District 211 school during the fall of 2013 are required to take this test. Test results allow schools to make initial assessments of a student’s skills and abilities. Student Services Directors and junior high school teachers then review scores and academic placement during February. The information gathered from junior high school recommendations are essential to High School District 211’s placement process. This information may be used as criteria for placement in special programs, such as accelerated courses or developmental programs. Recommendations for summer school programs also may be made as a result of these test scores.
Placement test results and materials for student elective course selection were mailed in early January. Notification of student course placement will be mailed the final week of February. The deadline for requesting a change in course selection is March 1, 2013. If you have questions or need further assistance, please contact the student services director at the school your child will attend in the fall.
New students and incoming freshmen need physical exams
(reprinted from January-February 2013 Superintendent's Newsletter)
State law requires that each incoming freshman submit a physical examination and record of immunization before registration is complete. Without proof of a physical examination, a student’s schedule will not be issued. Physical examinations must be completed by a licensed physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner within 12 months prior to the first day of school. This year, the State of Illinois and the Department of Public Health are mandating that all school physicals be submitted on a uniform form (version 01-12); no other forms may be accepted by schools. Forms completed by chiropractors must be co-signed by a licensed physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner. For new students, physical examinations should be completed before August registration.
Incoming freshmen and students new to High School District 211 wishing to participate in summer athletic or activity programs must present evidence of an appropriate physical examination taken within the last 15 months prior to the start of summer school on Wednesday, June 12, 2013.
Physicals also are required prior to participation or practice in interscholastic athletics and competitive spirit groups and are valid for 13 months. Therefore, students planning to participate are advised to schedule physical exams annually prior to expiration of their previous physical to ensure eligibility throughout the following school year. Athletes participating in fall sports must complete their physicals before practice begins on Wednesday, August 8, 2013. Adhering to these dates will assure athletic and activity eligibility throughout the school year.
Physical Exam forms are available here.
