Dear Scholarship Applicants,
It is an honor for us, Casey’s parents and sister, to offer this scholarship to a senior varsity baseball player at Fremd High School or Palatine High School. By awarding this scholarship we are not only honoring you, but we are honoring Casey’s memory, too. Casey began playing baseball at age 5 and played every year until January 2001, his senior year at Fremd, when he was diagnosed with cancer. Just as Casey played the game of baseball to be a champion that was the way he fought to win the battle against his illness. After a courageous two and a half year struggle, Casey lost his war against cancer on May 30, 2003.
Casey had many talents and interests, but his love for baseball is why we decided to grant this scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to one of you from one of these schools. The recipient must have a love of the game and be a team player, must be enrolled in college by the coming fall, and must complete the application in its entirety. Many factors will be considered as the applications are reviewed by us, Casey’s family.
Above all, it is our desire to keep Casey’s memory alive. His life was much too short and his dreams and goals were never fulfilled. We want this scholarship to help you see the realization of your dreams and goals, and hopefully one day you will be able to help another young person to do the same. Good luck to all of you.
Sincerely,
Steve, Debbie, and Kimberly Pohl
