H1N1 Vaccinations to be offered December 8 in D211
posted 11-30-2009
High School District 211 recently learned that the Cook County Department of Public Health will offer H1N1 vaccinations free of charge to students enrolled in District 211 schools on Tuesday, December 8, 2009. If you wish for your son or daughter to receive the vaccine, you must complete and sign both sides of the consent form, and return it to the nurse at the school your son or daughter attends no later than Wednesday, December 2, 2009. (Students 18 years old or older do not require a parent signature on the consent form and may complete their own consent form in order to receive the vaccine.) Participation in this program is voluntary, and there is no obligation for any student to receive the vaccination.

General Health Practices to Prevent the Spread of Germs
As you know, the flu season is here and we have had some cases of the flu. The flu is spread primarily by coughing and sneezing or by touching contaminated surfaces and then transferring the virus by hand to your nose, mouth, or eyes. To help limit the spread of the flu, we ask everyone to follow these health practices:
- Wash your hands with soap and water under warm running water for 20 seconds and rinse your hands well. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Cough into your sleeve or a tissue to prevent spreading germs. Do not cough or sneeze into your hands. Dispose of tissues in a waste basket.
- Flu symptoms include a fever, body aches, the chills, fatigue, coughing and sore throat. If you are ill with flu symptoms, please stay home from school for at least 24 hours after your temperature is below 100 degrees without the aid of medication, such as Tylenol.
