Associate Superintendent for Administrative Services

Associate Superintendent for Administrative Services Dan Cates monitors adherence to legal guidelines in matters of school discipline, attendance, expulsions, and residency requests, as well as serving as the District's homeless liaison. Dr. Cates is responsible for leading the District’s Instructional Team and overseeing the departments of special education and technology. Dr. Cates also coordinates students placed in alternative school settings and conducts school safety planning.

Dr. Cates graduated with his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1987. He received his doctorate from Indiana University in 1994. He began his District 211 career as a psychologist at William Fremd High School in 1992, before moving to the administration center as assistant to the director of special education in 1998. He was promoted to director of special education in 2001, to assistant superintendent in 2008, and to associate superintendent in 2011. He was honored by the Illinois State Board of Education with a Those Who Excel Award in 2008.
