Assistant Superintendent Jeff
Butzen coordinates curriculum development for all academic
areas, and coordinates the district’s gifted education
program. He oversees academic assessments, career
development, and staff development. In addition, Mr. Butzen
coordinates grant applications and serves as the district’s
facilitator of federal and state school improvement mandates
and “No Child Left Behind” programs. He also supervises
instructional technology operations.
Mr. Butzen graduated with a bachelor’s degree
in mathematics education from Illinois State University in
1974. He received his master’s degree in mathematics from
Illinois State University in 1976, and a Type 75
Administrative Certificate from Governors State University
in 1988. Mr. Butzen began his District 211 career as a
mathematics teacher at Palatine High School in 1978 and
moved to the administration center as assessment coordinator
in 1988. He served as assistant to the superintendent
(1992-1997) and director of instructional improvement
(1997-2003) before his promotion to assistant superintendent
for curriculum in 2003. Mr. Butzen is active in the Hoffman
Estates Chamber of Commerce as a current board member and
past president.
